Lou Reed
Jail Break
Giant tusked beasts, sudden storms upon the land, busted out of their cages, knocking cars around like they were toys. I rooted for them, as people ran away, screaming: terrified. I wished I was one of them, with long, ivory tusks gleaming in the moonlight, chasing jailers in one last glorious charge towards freedom.
Office Blues
Unusually warm February day. In here, sharp fluorescent glare, bright screen, bare walls. I pretend to be doing something, so the beast will turn away, so the beast will hunt elsewhere. Thus, my days crawl along.
Lou Reed
Saw him one hot, summer afternoon, walking towards me on the Westside, Upper Broadway but I stayed cool because that was the vibe of the day, cool and calm. As we passed, I stared straight ahead, mellow and blasé as hell. You know, smooth, baby. What a moment. Still high from the vibe, living in the city, long before stick- like high-rises with apartments priced at 40 to 50 million bucks signaled the end of something grand. But then, with Lou rocking. Oh, man, New York back in the day. His home and mine, both of us gliding along Broadway, baby.
